Something new…

100% Human logo buttons

It was one month ago on this date that I first shared my “Human at Work” presentation. To mark that milestone, I’m launching this site and blog as a new outlet for sharing my progress and ongoing ideas about how we can be more human in our work and in our everyday lives.

Following my own advice of “Goals Before Tools” I’ve started this new project in order to achieve a few new goals that have bubbled up in my brain following my original presentation. I expect these goals will evolve and change over time, but in a broad sense I think they outline where I’m at right now pretty accurately.

GOAL: Have a reason to write regularly about my work

I’ve known for a while that the simple process of writing, and seemingly endless rewriting, is often best way for me to figure out for myself what I actually think about a subject. Forcing myself to find the words and share a succinct thought improves my own awareness of what I know, what I’m learning, and if I’m making progress toward my goals. Why not do that in a place where I can also share those ideas and get feedback as well? Which brings me to…

GOAL: Show Your Work!

Straight out of the Austin Kleon playbook, this is just a no-brainer to me. I plan to keep tweaking this blog’s features, layout, and content whenever I feel I have to, and plan to keep track of why and how I make those changes along the way. Since I already work as a web content producer and strategist by day, l’d like to see what I can do to workout and grow those skills outside of my job, and help the two sides inform and strengthen each other. Which is why…

GOAL: Learn to use WordPress

It’s one of the most used CMS platforms in the world, a huge userbase within my higher ed community, and yet I’ve barely spent anytime in this. I want to start learning more about what’s possible here, and I can’t think of a better way to learn than by doing.

So that’s what’s next for me, and I hope you’ll come along for the ride. I’d love to know what you’re interested in seeing or learning with me. Let’s become better #humans together!

BONUS: Be one of the first 25 people to sign up for my newsletter and I’ll send you one of the “100% Human” buttons pictured above 🙂
